Ireland back Zebo to retire from rugby at end of season

Irish back Simon Zebo will retire from rugby at the end of the season, the Irish Rugby Union announced on Tuesday.

Text size:

The 34-year old, who playa either wing or full-back, scored seven tries in 35 Tests for Ireland and was part of the squad that won the 2015 Six Nations, also featuring in that year's World Cup.

"After much thought, I've decided that this season will be my last playing the game I love," Zebo said in the statement.

"It has been a dream come true, making memories and friends for life and travelling the world with amazing people."

Zebo made his Munster debut in 2010 and collected the first of his Ireland caps two years later.

In 2013, he was called up to the British and Irish Lions as cover for Tommy Bowe, making three appearances against Waratahs, Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels.

In 2018, he left Munster for French side Racing 92, scoring two tries in the European Champions Cup final in 2020 when the Parisians lost 31-27 to Exeter.

Zebo returned to the Irish province of Munster in 2021, going on to be their record try-scorer with 72 in 173 appearances.
